George Edalji was jailed for cattle maiming in 1903, but Sir Arthur had him exonerated. When the Irish Crown Jewels were stolen from Dublin Castle Doyle enquired into the matter.

He secuired the eventual release of Oscar Slater, convicted of a Glasgow killing. And he tried to save Norman Thorne, an inadequate Sussex farmer, from the gallows. In each case the person suspected by Doyle of perpetrating the crime is revealed, as well as full background of his investigations. Illustrated.
