In 1950 a series of races for all
formulas of racing cars was organised on the Chelmsford airfield
and in the following three years many famous names of motor
racing were there, including Mike Hawthorn, Bernie Ecclestone,
Brian Shawe-Taylor, Roy Salvadori, and Reg Parnell (to name
but a few).
From 1951, motorcycle racing also
took place, with John Surtees, Ken Kavanagh, and Bill Bodice.
This all ended in 1952, since when private events have been
held, recorded here. Illustrated with photographs of the car
and motorcycle stars in action. There is a foreword by Stirling
Moss, who has driven vehicles on the circuit since it closed
to the public.
