The Fighting Rovers
The Fighting Rovers - 2nd edition
Author: Leslie Geary
ISBN: 0 86025 272 8

The Rover Company began making Land Rovers as a general-purpose vehicle mainly for agricultural use in 1947. It was loosely modelled on the Willys' Jeep and it was not long before Land Rovers were being adapted for military, as well as domestic, use. The evolution of the Rover military stable, which has vehicles of ¼, ½, ¾ and 1 tonne, as well as airportable and specialised vehicles for military duties, is here traced.

There are over 50 photographs, including a number of shots of Rovers in action in many parts of the world. Detailed specifications of 28 vehicles, 11 trailers and all Rover engines and transmissions are given, again backed with photographs. There is a brief look at the work of the Royal Armament Research and Development Establishment.
